Dog Dayschool Instructor

No Barks About It is looking to add a motivated Doggie Dayschool Instructor to our team!

Our Dayschool Instructors are an integral part of our dayschool program; your primary responsibility is the safety of all of the dogs in our care. But you'll be doing so much more than just supervising them while they play. Our program is heavily focused on training and reinforcement of basic canine skills and manners as well as enrichment activities in addition to the group play aspect of daycare. We will provide you with a strong foundation in dog behavior, body language and canine learning theory; the ideal candidate will be excited to learn the basics of primarily positive-reinforcement dog training. Continuing and advanced education opportunities are provided to interested staff members frequently in the form of books, videos, articles and the occasional seminar as well as hands-on learning with the dogs. We are looking for someone with a life-long learning mentality; dog training is always evolving and there is always more to learn.

Other essential functions of this job include:

- Engaging each dog in play or enrichment throughout the day
- Maintaining daily groups and play schedules including crated nap times
- Proper use of facility equipment, including sanitation.

- Training and reinforcing basic manners and obedience following our pet training protocol.
- Understanding and reinforcing appropriate body language and play behavior.
- Cleaning of the facility including vacuuming, moping, dusting, sanitizing, and re-stocking.
- Communicating health and activities of dogs with their owners including completion of periodic behavior assessments and reports.

- One-on-one training work with dogs in our Elective and PupK programs

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, creative, patient and capable of multi-tasking and problem solving.

Experience with dogs in a professional setting (veterinary, grooming, daycare, boarding, shelter) is preferred but not required. You must have excellent organization and communication skills; teamwork is very important here. You must be comfortable and confident working directly with dogs, including dealing with excessive hair, drool, feces, vomit, barking, and being jumped on. You must also be able to lift 50lbs and be on your feet for 6+ hours at a time.

This is a part-time position starting at $11.10 an hour based on experience; the schedule we need to fill is flexible and not yet set in stone, but we do tru to keep the same set schedule each week as much as possible so our staff can plan their life and other jobs more effectively. We anticipate needing to fill about 20-25 hours a week, Monday-Friday. Benefits include paid time off, free daycare for your (daycare qualified) dog and discounted grooming services.
